Business Leaders Honored For Service

Two local business leaders were honored at the December Board of Directors meeting for Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation for their commitment and service to the non-profit organization. Jerry Jeffrey and Brandon Lucas were presented plaques as their terms have come to an end in serving on the Board of Directors for the regional economic development group.

“We appreciate their valuable input into this organization,” said Dr. Jeff Lashley, PhD. “The two of them have provided countless numbers of hours of service in helping better economic opportunities for the entire Region”.

Jerry Jeffrey, Financial Advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors in Moberly has completed two terms of service on the Board of Directors, a stint that lasted six years. During Jeffrey’s time he served as Chairman of the Board during a phase when the organization transitioned into becoming a multi-county agency.

“Jerry was a key member of that visionary team that led change in the organization,” said Dr. Lashley. “Under his leadership as Chairman we were able to grow the regional concept into what it is today.”

While serving on the Board of Directors for Moberly Area Economic Development Jeffrey was a part of the expansion resulting in Moberly Area Economic Development being the only organization in Central and Northeast Missouri with two full-time economic developers and a staff of two.

Through the past six years Jeffrey participated in the recruiting of Lowe’s, Finspeed, Stark Brothers Fulfillment, Shapiro Brothers Recycling and Vest-Fiber to Moberly, JC Solutions to Salisbury and State Fair Community College to Boonville.

Throughout the same six year period the group also worked on employer expansion projects for Orscheln Products in Moberly, Lakeside Castings, Continental Castings and Indeeco, all of Monroe City. The total investment adding up to hundreds of millions of dollars and hundreds of new jobs in the Moberly Region during the past six years.

In addition during the Jeffrey years at Moberly Area Economic Development the group assisted with the new retail development next to Wal-Mart known as Moberly Crossings that is now home to Glick’s and Great Clips two new businesses to the City of Moberly as well.

“Jerry’s work will have a lasting impact on the Moberly Region for some time to come,” said Corey Mehaffy, President of Moberly Area Economic Development.

Also honored during the same meeting was Brandon Lucas the President and Founder of Fusion Technologies. Lucas completed a one-year term as the Past-President of the Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce.

“As an entrepreneur Brandon contributed greatly to our new project, Grow Mid-Missouri,” said Mehaffy.

Grow Mid-Missouri is a new partnership designed to support the growth of new start-up businesses from within the Mid-Missouri area.

“Brandon understands the challenges of starting a new business from scratch having done so no less than three times in the community,” commented Mehaffy “He was also instrumental in the enhancement of our technology in our office as well,”.

“These two gentlemen have been great assets to our efforts,” said Dr. Lashley. “We know that they both will continue to play an important role into the future in other was to improve the Region for some time to come.”
