Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation (MAEDC) announces the expansion of Mac Rak Inc. of Joliet, IL in Moberly. Mac Rak is a family-owned company by Shawn and Pam MacDonald. The company will purchase the former Randolph County Sheltered Industry space on Sparks Avenue. Mac Rak plans to invest $2.5 million in the facility and employ at least 30 people.
Mac Rak has been in business over 18 years, and has grown to be the industry leader in engineered warehouse storage rack repair. Their products repair and protect warehouse rack systems quicker and more cost effectively than traditional frame replacement. They have a diverse client base including household names such as Home Depot, Kraft Foods, US Food Service, McLane Distribution, Medline and Amazon. Moberly will be Mac Rak’s second location, and they plan to open the facility in the summer of 2018.
“Moberly has been very inviting to us since early conversations began and they did an excellent job providing us with the resources we needed to make this expansion possible. Moberly, being geographically centered between St. Louis and Kansas City, will provide us with many options of existing and new raw material suppliers. I am proud of our company’s growth and excited for the Moberly facility to join the Mac Rak family. Pam and I look forward to being part of the community and bringing quality jobs to the area,” said Shawn MacDonald President of Mac Rak.
Many in the community know this facility in Sparks Avenue as the former Mid-Am building. Mid-Am sold the building to Randolph County Sheltered Industries; since RCSI’s move, the facility has been vacant. The company will completely remodel the building by, putting a new exterior on the facility as well as interior renovations.
Mayor Jerry Jeffrey of Moberly shared his enthusiasm about the project. “Anyone who drove by that facility knew it needed improvements. We are thrilled to have found a company willing to make an investment in our community and bring jobs back to that facility. On behalf of the City Council and staff, I thank Shawn and Pam MacDonald for the investment and wish them good fortune in Moberly.”
“Whenever one of our underused facilities can be repurposed it brings a lot of pride back to our community. Shuttered buildings can be eyesores and remind people of the jobs that no longer exist in that facility. Bringing one of those buildings back to life brings me great joy,” added Corey Mehaffy President of MAEDC. “Thank you to Mac Rak, Shawn and Pam, and all our partners on this project. This project had many players and resources that needed to be organized. Thankfully, our team came through and we are looking forward to seeing Mac Rak operating in Moberly.”
“By moving into this facility, Mac Rak is going to make a big difference for the community of Moberly,” said Rob Dixon, Director of Missouri’s Department of Economic Development. “We’re excited we could be part of the project team that helped make that happen.”
The company will be sharing more information about hiring in the coming weeks. The primary occupations will be in manufacturing with competitive wages.
